Current Position: André is a Paediatrician & Paediatric Pulmonologist. He works in Private Practice at the NetCare Clinton and NetCare Alberlito Hospitals in Johannesburg and Ballito and holds an Honorary appointment at the University of Pretoria. The NetCare Clinton practice is a HPCSA accredited Sub-Specialist Training Unit that offers satelite training in Paediatric Pulmonology and Paeditric Critical Care medicine to Fellows from the University of Pretoria. He received an Honorary Professorship from the University of Pretoria. André is an Executive member, and an Office Bearer, of ALLSA and the Primary Immune Deficiency Working Group (PIDDSA) of ALLSA. He is also a member of the South African Thoracic Society (SATS) & the African Society for Immunodeficiencies (ASID).

Current Position I am currently in a part time post at Red Cross Children’s Hospital as a Paediatric Consultant in the Allergy and Asthma clinic and an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Cape Town, a post I have held since September 2009. I am furthermore working as a Paediatric and Allergology Consultant in Private Practice at Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Cape Town.
RESEARCH AND TEACHING
I have recently completed a research project ‘Investigating Food Allergy in South African Children with Atopic Dermatitis” and based my PhD on this study. This research has led to several publications in international journals, and has provided a platform for further research into allergy epidemiology in South Africa. A follow - up study is now underway in this research cohort. I am also involved in other departmental research and training at Red Cross Hospital, and present regularly at local meetings and journal clubs. As well as being a member of the Allergy Society of South Africa, I also hold international memberships including the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
I have several allergy related publications in peer reviewed journals and have presented at numerous local and international meetings on allergy related topics over the past few years.
I have been honored to serve on the ALLSA EXCOM during the past 3 years with an inspiring group of colleagues from whom I have learnt so much, and would be delighted continue to contribute tow ard the work of this excellent Society.
